Not enough voters here have a decent sense of humor : (
Now that you are not limited by Basic editing rules, you might want to try adding some (garish) color back into the "rocket jets."
People here like to know what they're looking at, though I like this type of making one object stand in for another. However, my entries in this genre (except the last listed) rarely fare better than yours.
Here are some examples of mine ...
Dreaming of a Sapphire Sea
Sandy Ripples
Where Are The Penguins?
Searching for Signs of Intelligent Life

I see this a bit more as underexposed than low key, though the definition of low key does vary. In this instance, it's hard to tell exactly what I'm looking at, which isn't always a bad thing, but I'd have liked a bit more definition and detail. I thought it was a frisbee kinda thing. It certainly does look like a UFO, though! |

boy, 2 in a row where people aren't between 4.5 and 5.5. The reason I like to have it at 4.5 is honestly shots in the 3s are mainly beyond help. (that's not to say your photography is beyond help, just this particular shot).
Perfectly centered, very low contrast, and an abstract subject all contributed to the score. That being said, I do think you were creative in the shot. It really does look like a UFO.

Rich, I didn't enter this challenge, and didn't get to spend as much time as I wanted looking at the submissions. You certainly get full marks for creating an image that presents an 'out-of-this-world' effect. My first reaction was 'UFO' or 'jellyfish' The haze that is created from the mist just adds to that effect as well. For a low light submission I think you met the challenge - I think it just didn't capture the voters attention or interest. In my opinion, this certainly wasn't a sub 4 picture. |

I think that this image suffers from the poor lighting and the fact that it's mostly out of focus ... I also don't think that it really fit the challenge very well ... there was nothing to really draw me into the image and want to explore it ... since I'm not really good at the 'low key' thing (I didn't enter this challenge) I really don't know what you could have done to make this better ... hopefully DrAchoo will be able to hit on that ... |

Very grainy and oof. Think the lighting is okay, but perhaps a better contrast and midtones might create a stronger image. |
