Hi, Greetings from the Critique Club:
Composition:Hmmm...right. We need to start from scratch. The angle of the photo is just not doing the cabinet justice. You obviously wanted to show this cabinet off...so do so. But not from this angle. It is a beautiful cabinet. Try getting down on the ground and looking up...show its grandness to the world. Also...whilst you may see a beautiful piece of furniture, others may look at it and say 'So What! What is so special about it?' So you need to add more to the story...maybe open the door and have some of the contents laid out in front...as if they are lining up trying to get into the cabinet. Or maybe a beautiful narrow rug leading up to the door. Basically you need something that draws the viewers eye straight at the cabinet. Make it obvious what you want to show. Also that floor and wall are just not helping...maybe hang a white cloth behind it for the photo...take away the unnecessary distractions.
Technical: The camera was hand held. The settings possibly on Automatic. Start to learn your settings. The flash has almost blown out one side of the image. That does not help. Try using something sturdy to balance the camera on (if you have no tripod) and play with your settings. It is a still life...so you can play with long shutter speeds and no flash. You can even paint with light during the no flash image and highlight specific areas.
Overall: I feel this should be reshot taking into account everything I have said here...and I think you may be surprised with the outcome. Don't give up...keep learning. I look forward to seeing your future images. |

I am sure there is a rich wood grain to this fine family heirloom, but your perspective does not highlight that feature. As is, it looks like a snap shot for insurance purposes. I am no expert, but many comments to me have stated..."walk around your subject" "focus on an aspect you want the viewer to see" "shoot as many shots as possible" "set up different arrangements". That said, I don't want to seem "all knowing" - rather just to "pay it forward" from what I have learned. Good luck in the challenge :) |

This photo does not really make a lasting impression on the viewer. This would be the type of photo I would expect to see on E-bay if you were trying to sell this item. |

did you try to look at this piece from an other angle? may be centering on the beautiful work of the legs? lighting is not really favorable - the right side is over exposed the left side dark. you could have bumped up the levels, curves to add more contrast and let the piece stand out. |

Has a real "snapshot" feel to the shot, but lovely furniture piece |

Looks like an ad on Ebay I am afraid - Needs some composition and the bad cropping too close to the leg is another distraction. |

Nice piece of furniture, but the photo isn't that exciting. Meets challenge of course, but there is probably more sentimental connection for you than what dp'ers will see. 6 |

Nice piece of furniture, evenly lit with the content well visible. All that at the cost of clearer definition to set the item off against its background. Caters for the dowdy. |

This is the kind of image you should use on EBay if you were selling this lovely piece of furniture. There is nothing creative or interesting about your shot at all. sorry :-( |
