The weather has been getting nicer here which makes the zoo a possible trip again. This is from one of the newer exhibits at the zoo. He is a flying fox - a HUGE bat. There are about a dozen or so. This guy was just waking up and getting redy to stretch out. The colors are pretty true. The background is a great red and his eyes are vibrant.
PP - Raw conversion, High pass hsarpen, NI, levels, spot desat on his body and a slight sat on the pic as a whole, dodging and burning all over his body, cloned out highlights in his eyes, blur and burning on background (the base of the vignette was already there), resize, USM border and one other thing. Hmmm - what was it. Oh yes - 180 degree rotation. How could I forget.
Edit to add - I had some concerns about my initial edit. So I sent in my before and after to SC. Several days later (which is never a good thing) they responded that over half of those who had viewed the image siad they felt it was illegal. That my dodging and burning work was to omuch - creating a spotlight effect on the background. Big bummer. 3 days before it goes up for vote and I had deleted the RAW (I keep the jpegs for validation). I tried anotehr edit but the bat looked crappy. I had almost thrown inthe towel on thisone and went with a pic of a lion. Aimee suggested I keep working at it. I ended up taking my bat from my original edit and masking him onto the background of my new edit (all from the same pic folks - dont get antsy on me). WHile not exactly what I wanted for this shot, this edit is acceptable to me and more importantly to the SC. All this owrk for a most likely sub 6 score. ;) |

That is amazing. It looks like a statute! I don't think we have those at our zoo. I wish we did. They look so interesting! What a cool photo!

LOL. What can you really say about a photo like this? It's too humorous to really allow me to really get in to the technical qualities of it. Very funny. |

Right then, joke's on me as I now have to plough through 564 images and bump them all (yes, all of them) up. There'll be a third run through for fine tuning.
This is sort of unserious and light. But it's so good. Must be worth 6 |
