 This photo of a beautiful eagle on "final approach" was taken in Homer, Alaska where a large number of eagles spend the winter. The slight blur to the wings seems to show motion in the single frame image, while the primary focus on his head captures the look of sheer determination on his face which seems to say "don't mess with me".

Here's one thing I've learned through trial and error.
You sharpen whatever it is that you sharpen.
If you sharpen a blurry spot, you're sharpening blur.
Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't.
However, this is a great picture. Not many people get close to live eagles nowadays.

Something just doesn't seem real about this, the focus is really lost around the edges, as though you shot with a high zoom and really cropped the image. 5

Ah, this looks like a tight crop from a long focus. It appears you oversharpened to try and make up for poor focus and the result is not appealing. You did capture an amazing moment but the technicals are hurting this photo.

good composition, but much too grainy. the grain makes it look like a painting, but in my opinion it doesn't fit with the strength the eagle is supposed to represent. great capture of a moment nonetheless!

Right then, joke's on me as I now have to plough through 564 images and bump them all (yes, all of them) up. There'll be a third run through for fine tuning.
