 To me, winter has a very particular smell, kinda woodsy and earthy, cold with just a touch of warmth left - that's what I'm trying to put into this picture.

Used polarizing filter, don't know why really, but the colours came out a bit "funny" I think. Seems like using polarizing filter in some situations will "grey out" the image somewhat???

Fiddled around endlessly with contrast, brightness, colours, gamma, and in particular curves, to get it just the way I wanted it. Ran through NI. I am not entirely happy with the picture as it is, but, here it goes :))

Hi Ursula, guess who got your photo to critique. =o)

Beautiful image with excellent composition. I wouldn't change anything in it. Does look like the day before a snow storm to me, and we all know that there is a slight change in the air then, so I would have to say it does meet the challenge as well.

Beautiful composition and subject! I'd love to see it in real life. However, to me it doesn't seem to fit into this challenge very well.

A very pretty composition; I like the bare branches and the simple composition. Not that it affects my rating, but does winter have a distinct smell?

A gorgeous capture with almost -bleached- hues (the near-turquoise foregound and sky above horizon). Very good contrast, given the fog, particularly in the reflection. The horizontally centered composition, of course, aids the staticity of the landscape. A photographer more passionate about his art, would have blown up the slim tower visible near the centre of the image prior to taking this shot. ;-)

Pretty scene but strong line bisects in the middle. Not sure how you tie into the tpoic for the challenge but I don't make the connection.

While this was without a doubt one of the most fantastic pictures in this challenge, I could not rate it at its highest. . . simply because I could not make a quick connection to the theme of the challenge. I am sure there are scents and aromas that are here, but in my estimation too many. But then again, that is just me. Best of luck

A stunning image, though one that just doesn't convey any scent to me whatsoever. Beautiful capture of mist, slightly muted colours and beautifully balanced composition.

Very beautiful symmetry that worked well in this photo. Nicely done. However, scents and aroma would not be the first words to come to mind when I looked at this photo. but the title helped.

Absolutely stunning. I wish I could tell what the scent part is, but this is a beautiful picture nonetheless. After the challenge, you might want to edit out the cell towers (?) if that's wwhat they are in the background. Colors and cropping are terrific.

Wonderful landscape, it indeed manages to communicate smell by making me remember what a cold winterday smells like. I think that there is nothing that smells better than nature on certain days, especially since it links to certain feelings of joy and other emotions.
There are those days when you step outside, take a deep sniff of air and it smells just like it did 20 years ago, when I was just a little lad. You just know that it is going to be a wonderful day.

A bit oversharpened, and image would be more interesting if emphasis was given to the reflection or sky, i.e. not half half I think

Yeah, I can get the "wintery smell" from this. Wouldn't matter though; I love this shot. Lighting, color, composition and overall feel of this shot are wonderful. Meets the challenge in a very subtle way, though I imagine many peeps won't think so. This gets a 10 from me strictly on the aesthetics.

Very very good picture. Composition is interesting, crisp and refreshing. But, I couldn't "smell" the aroma or the scent though. This will be a winner in other categories but here.
