Hello Grandad,
There are a few things I would like to point out here. First, the face board on the roof, it gives the (optical) impression that it is coming out of your should & again at head level. By moving a step or two to your right would reslove this. Secondly, the pad lock again gives the (optical) impression that it it hanging from your arm, not the door. The watch on your arm there is giving off some glare that is a we bit distracting. Finally the lighting, you could have used a reflector or bounced some flash off the barn at an angle fro below to lighten up the shadow on you face. Over all I like the shot. Hope these little tid bits hlp you out.

I'd like to see more light on his face.

this cries for a filling flash or a reflector

I like the composition but I'd like to see more light reflected on his face

Could have used some fill flash or a reflector here. I imagine at this point in the voting stage you've probably already heard that. :) Good luck.

I don't like the lighting, but everything else seems fine!

IMO, IMO <---which is almost worthless most of the time, LOL. Dodge, and burn the hell out of the barn, and give his face a bit more light. GL.

Strong light from the right leaves the face too much in shadow. Needs some fill-in flash or a reflector to balance up the shot.

Brightening up his face would help. So would cloning out the dust streak (r whatever it is) up in the top left corner.

turn him towards the sun to avoid the shadows on his face or use a reflector to fill them in ...
