Challenge: Image Grain II (Basic Editing)
Collection: What Was I Thinking?
Camera: Canon PowerShot A95
Location: Easton, CT
Date: Mar 13, 2007
Aperture: f/2.8
ISO: 400
Shutter: 1/40
Date Uploaded: Mar 13, 2007

Natural grain... I took this with a little Powershot camera in 2MP mode at ISO 400. If it were any noisier, it would wake the neighbors. :-/

The eyes were made with a fluorescent strip light placed in a long tripod box under the bed with shapes cut out of the cardboard. I was getting a few decent shots... riiiiiiight up until my son actually saw the eyes. Then he totally freaked out (even when I showed him that it was just a box). Kids REALLY hate having monsters under the bed!

I had a single monolight (just the modeling lamp) high up on the left to throw a shadow under the bed. Processing consisted of Channel Mixer conversion to B&W, slight Shadow/Highlight, Curves, HSL for color tone, and USM.

That's funny! You always have the best ideas (even when they don't score well!)

Now start saving for the psychologist bills.

Oh, the memories! I had a wooden closet door, and the wood pattern of course consisted of MONSTERS. Well conceived and executed, as usual. Your poor son!

Good one!!!! Funny, evocative and well executed .... You could send that monster round to my daughters room though if he keeps it that tidy ;-)

Awwwwww, poor little guy! This monster used to live under my bed, I know how he feels! Great photo! The grain adds to the mood perfectly and I especially love the way the little guy is gripping the edge of the bed. Hope he got a chocolate after this!

Believe it or not, this one gave me a bit of a creepy feel! That's a good thing because it really drove home the entire idea of your shot. The grain works really well with it too! I love this shot!!! I guess our childhood fears still lurk somewhere, don't they? REALLY NICE!
