With a nod to Ted Hughes' "Gog":

...
The horizon bears the rocks and trees away into the twilight.
I lie down. I become darkness.

On the beach in the fog - these little fishing rowing boats slid in onto the beach, out of the mist every half hour or so - silent and smooth. They were carrying lobsters. Very poor, depressed area of the West Coast: a major fish factory was shut down a while ago, leaving many families destitute.

Paternoster Fishing Village, West Coast, Cape. Early morning fog and fishermen.

This photo feels ancient, like a ritual time of fishing participated in throughout the ages.

Wonderful! You should sell this as a print.

Thanks Jutilda, Sandy and Germaine - your opinions mean a lot. Pleased that there was some recognition of my efforts. I do like this one too. Somehow the placing this time round didn't hurt much...must be growing that thick skin!

38th? Woah. I thought it was magnificent. Maybe too subtle for the DPC crowd.

Excellent capture of the "non-horizon". I love the texture of the water in the foreground.

Wonderful exposure on this photo. The light really add to the charm of this grandfather/grandson outting(or at least that's the story I'm seeing). Well done!

One of the best. I can almost hear the non-verbal communication between two old friends who have done this drill hundreds of times. Of course it probably turns verbal when one of the men drops the others fishing pole!

edited for mixed up words ;)

Well done. I Like it. There are a distracting point in the upper right. I don´t know what´s that.

oh nice. i'd probably lighten it up a bit to lose the horizon completely or should i say: let the light carry away the horizon, 8

This is absolutely stunning. I love the midtones and shadows, creating silhouette, yet you can still distinguish details on both of the men. The boat creates a lovely line as well. 10
