CRITIQUE CLUB COMMENT

This was an oustanding choice of subject matter for kitchenware! In order to set yourself apart in this challenge I felt you had to either shoot a unique piece of kitchenware that most people don't have or shoot something in a clever or unexpected way. This is obviously the unique side of the coin and an excellent choice. Unfortunately the blown out whites on the window behind the stove pipe probably held you back more than anything else. The window seems overexposed thereby making everything else seem underexposed by comparison. The lighting you captured on the dresser in the background was excellent and about the range of light I would have liked to see through the majority of the shot. All of the items in the shot seem to belong there (i.e. no distracting modern kitchenware). If you set up this prop shot you picked all the right props with the possible exception of what looks like styrofoam cups on the dresser. Not to take anything away from your photo but I was a little surprised by such a high place finish (25th). However, the 6.2 score seems pretty much where I would have scored it. As I said, I would have given you a 6 or better just for capturing something unique alone. Perhaps a suggestion to improve the lighting on the stove would be to use some very reflective white reflectors of some sort to bounce the sun back onto the object of focus. Perhaps you did this but didn't have enough reflection. It's a very worthy shot.

Congrats on the personal best!

I'm torn about the window. I think either I'd like to see the glow knocked down so it doesn't randomly bleed over or amped up so it's clearly a deliberate effect.

The backlighting makes you really look for the detail, a nice use of lighting

Woo hoo! I had a feeling one of the vintage kitchens was yours, but I actually thought it was a different one. Great entry, and way to go with the PB.

I did get to vote on this during the challenge and thought it was great! I loved the nostalgic feel to it. Quite a contrast to some of the modern kitchens on display in the challenge. Although, I'd rather be cooking in one of those modern kitchens than this one lol. Congrats on your placement!

Lovely find for this challenge. My favorite part is the chest and stool to the right side, though I'm not sure why - maybe the light and the texture. And while this is a fine shot, well done, nicely composed and fits the challenge well, it's a sad reflection of the DPC voting mass that this is your new highest score. And don't you dare let Monty fall off the page... :-)

Very neat, I really like this image, I would have liked it even more if the light wasn't so harsh through the window. Great work, 7.

A very personal photo. The light from the window is a little overpowering though.

I love the light on the pot on the stove. This part of the photo is excellent - great color and shape displayed. The blown out window really takes away from the rest of the image for me. Getting in closer (or cropping) to change the perspective so that only the stove is in the image and cutting out the window behind would really improve the image in my opinion.

This is beautiful! What a great entry for this challenge. I really like the flames showing through the oven door. It almost brings life to the old feeling of the room. The glare from the window is showing the first light of morning and the coffee is waiting to be poured. I know how hard it is to shoot into the light from a dark room, but I'd love to see a little more detail in the shadows here. High marks from me 9.
