Strong composition and magnificent sky. I would like to see the grass a bit darker. Good job. |

Great variety of high-contrast shapes, and the sky has a good tonal range which keeps it from looking too "flat". Nice angling in the composition. |

Very interesting architecture. The shapes are very eye catching and good contrast. The little squares inside add some interest to the darkness that I find appealing.
the poor little tree is overwhelmed, in my opinion, and gets lost against the strong details of the wall. I wish it was down on the left side where the wall leads your eye. I probably would have cropped off the side where the wall ends, to make it look as if it goes on and on. but thats just me.
The clouds are nicely moody, but the blues are just a bit to dark in the background. However, the sky did not attract my attention at all. I had to go look for it. |

The lines of the building are very nice, but I am wondering about maybe a stronger angle (you closer to the building) and a different part of day, so the gradulant of the light on the building is gone. For me it just doesn't balance the image very well. Personally I also think the sky is a bit dark. However I find that tree marvelous beyond compare. |

There are 3 things I really like in this B/W, the sky is very beautiful, the light tree in front of the building offers a good balance to all the man-made structures, the shadows inside the arches (look like little windows). I find the angle at which you took this a bit odd, and I find the grass in front a bit too much of the same (and maybe, just maybe, slightly too bright - sort of like it needs more texture). However, the gentle texture of the cement walls is beautiful. |

You have great tonality here. Crisp white and dark black. The varying textures are very nice. The clouds look beautiful. You've chosen a great composition on this. The eye keeps moving in naturally. Very well done. |

I love the patterns in the wall openings. The clouds contrasting with the sky is gorgeous! I like the tree too - but it seems to get lost against that wall. |

I really like the play of shapes and objects in this scene. The tonal ranges are good. As good as the composition is I think the arrangement can be stronger with a different angle. IMHO I think the composition would be stronger if you moved position to show us the little tree 'contained' in the freestyle arch shape of the building. Symbolically I would read that as nature being 'contained' or struggling to break free of the man-made structure to reach up to the sky above (which would be the backdrop of the image). |

Great shot - I like the lines AND the tree, which for me breaks up the symmetry in a slightly uneasy way, quite edgy. Strangely it is the clouds and the chimney which I find slightly distracting. It looks Islamic, which is not what I'd expect in Virginia. |

I like the little tree. I like that the sky is so black and white and the trees leaves are so white but the building is greys. The clouds and the tree are curly and unruly in contrast to the regularly repeating curves of the cement. Nature is more vibrant than man made. I agree that the tilt, real or illusion, is distracting. |

i like the repetition of the pattern a lot, graphically very appealing composition. the dramatic sky and the tree trying to survive in the necropolis is making this picture really work for me. very nice. |

Congrats on being number one in this challenge, more congrats on the quality of the image. I love the building lines and the minamalism of the tree. The clouds give the shot a wonderful 3D effect

Just a little insight, this is actually a cemetary - so the tree, young and struggling, is a powerful symbol to me.

This is a nice dramatic B&W. It looks tilted a little bit, I might rotate it to the left a bit (but it may not be tilted, it could just be an optical illusion caused by the perspective). I love the strong shadows behind the arches and the sky is great! |
