I love this photo. The composition is so simple, but the slight graininess of it and the great contrast of blacks and white make it so striking!

| The patterns on the nib are lovely, and I like the slight shadow beneath. I wish there was just a tad more DOF so that the end of the nib was sharp. Overall very favorable impression, however! |

| I like the idea and coposition of this, the contrasts and lighting look fairly nice, but I don't care for your focal positioning here. I am thinking it may have a much more dramatic feel if the focal spot started at the tip and moved back. The shallowness is fine, just think it needs to be more towards the tip. |

| A bit too much space but I totally dig the subject, looks good. The scroll work on the tip of the pen is my favorite part. The grain on the barrel of the pen is a bit much, I think the bokeh is exagerating it. |

| I like the placement in the frame and it's a good photo. Has a lot of grain and I am not sure if you were going for that or not. I'd prefer to see it a bit cleaner. |

A nice choice of subjects.
I don't have much to say about the shot itself, but I'd like to put something out there for you.
During the course of this "challenge", people will be wanting to comment and learn and provide insights, and whatnot. One way that you can help with this is by making sure that you include as much relevant information on each shot as you can. It only takes a few minutes to add the data in the drop down menus, and whenever you can, tell us things like why you converted the way you did, why you shot the way you did, etc.
It's a huge help for everyone concerned, but especially for you yourself. |

| I really enjoy classic looking pen and paper shots and this one no less. The grain here is quite nice. Could use just a tad more contrast. |
