 Believe it or not, this wasn't set up! There's an old wood cart in my backyard with an old (and very dirty) placemat on top with some random things that had been set there a while ago and just have never been moved I guess. What you see are: a stained placemat, 2 fossilized shell rocks (I'm planning on doing a closeup of those another day), a sunbleached shell, and a stalk of some sort.

I think it's alright compositionally, but I kinda wish I had tinkered with the placement a little bit. I also would have taken it from a more overhead angle b/c the right corner of the mat was actually cut off, but I managed to clone back the table well enough. Used a dark brown border to expand on the background since it was so tight to begin with.

I like the toning tremendously here, and the mixture of textures is interesting. I'm not crazy about the rock in the bottom right, as it is pulling my eye out of the photo. Even though the grass is slightly off the placemat at the ends (which works, I think), the rock might be stronger a little to the left. Just my .02

i like this,
i wonder how it would work with a much tighter crop, so you cant see any of the edges of the placemat at all even if it means cropping some parts of the objects.

I like the sepoa tones, as it gives it an ageing quality, but I would also like to see it in B&W as well.....

I really like the articles and their placement. I would love it if the entire background were the same light colour with no darkness arond it.

Wonderful capture! There's a lot for the eye to feed on. Perhaps a bit sharper? But the color works well with this. Great work.

I rather like the haphazard placement. What does the color version look like? Funny how the sepia/duotone can make an image COMPLETELY different isn't it?
