Well.. the 18-55mm isn't a portrait lens, but I've been busy the last two days helping a mother out with 3 very busy children, and I did a small shoot for them this afternoon. I really had no time or energy to get any real B&W shots, so I did my best with this one. (Some of the shots I got with my 135mm would have been wonderful, but it's not the 135mm's turn).

This one I just couldn't convert the way I wanted to (especially since I accidentally shot in ISO 800.. AGAIN), so ended up going a bit over-the-top. I'm not happy with it, but it's a shot, it fills the requirements, and there you go. It's pretty much a throw-away that only made it into the project by means of being taken with the 18-55mm. I need to find something to shoot *tonight* still. Glurgh.

I wish my ISO 800 looked that good :) Cute portrait...I wouldn't call is a "throw-away".

a really nice shot, like the sepia look this has to it, a tad blurry but not enuf to take away from it imo

Nice shot though, and this is not prompted by your comment, I don't care for the reddish hue lol. Trade hues with me? Come on man, don't bogart your hue.

hahaha :) Hey, I never said that choosing a hue would work for *everyone*, just to think about what it means to yourself when you choose it ;)

I like the shot and the ISO 800 creates great grain.
Grain is good for your body LOL.
Reminds me when I shot Koadk black and white film!
I shoot at 800 and 1600 allot specially candids with natural light.
So go for it keep shooting!

You're being a touch hard on yourself (well maybe not LOL). I don't mind the hint of grain and the soft focus. Some people do that on kid's portraits and they sell like mad. I might clone out that smidge of shine under her right nostril. Ok - expecting great things from you tomorrow. ;~D

Do your lens take turns? How cute - my 17-35 is just SELFISH - and I LOVE her for it - GRIN!

Cute kid.

an unusual and interesting portrait .. i like how her hair is focused and you lose the focus a bit on her face ... i think i can see she's been getting a bit grubby, so the lack of focus sort'v works because of that .. hard to explain ... those eyes are exceptional and her expression, to me, makes me feel that she is joyful and totally in the moment .. :) .. she looks like she's just about to burst out laughing ..

Yah.. I know. The crop was necessary due to foreground elements.. and like I stated, it was going to be a throw-away.. but I had to convert *something*. heh.

I like this shot a lot. Excellent expression and soft focus works very well here.
