In order to get the lines going verically in the vase I cut out a piece of the backround to the shape of the vase and taped it perpendicularly on to the back of the vase and then filled it with water to get the refraction. Unfortunately, I do not have the proper lighting equiptment and found the best place to take the picture was in the foyer of my house. I used white sheets to diffuse as much of the light as I could but still got some reflection on the vase. Also I was not able to eliminate the barrel effect so that the lines do not appear perfectly straight at the top and the bottom of the picture. I was attempting to get perfect symmetry in the vase as well and took many shots at different angles. This was as close as I could get. I wish I had more time to work on it but the time constraints of work and family crimp my ability to attempt and achieve perfection! If anyone can offer suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it.

Looks like a glass zebra. :) This is one of those images where if you look at it too long you start seeing spots on the wall after. :D Pretty cool.

Creative idea. The lighting is really good. I don't like how close together the lines are on the background (makes it kind of hard to look at), but if they were farther apart it wouldn't look as good in the vase.

I am really confused. Should i like it because of the creativity, and skill of the shot, or hate it is hard on the eyes and makes me dizzy? I will vote somewhere in beween. Great capture.

the subtle crookedness really robs strength from this shot. always make sure these things are perfectly straight

I always have been impressed with these kind of shots, it is amazing how the water reverses things, and emphasizes others, this is a good shot, the lines are difficult to capture and you did it very well, good job

This is a great shot, it's like one of those pictures that if you stare at it too long your eyes go weird!

Very nice abstract. :-) It was a good idea to fill the vase with water and manipulate the stripes this way. Anyway, for my personal taste, stripes get more accent than the water itself. B&W was an excellent choice for this photo.

Very much a graphical picture. Unfortunately the horizontal lines are very painful to look at. The reflective lines from the vase is absolutely beautiful. Curves and the symetry of those lines are impressive.
