Best part about this is the lady's face - like the tones and expression, even the hard lighting gives a feel of reality to the scene. Personally I find most of the other elements in the shot to be a distraction, chief of which would be the flag being held in front of her face (unfortunate). |

Great eye. I like this one. My only complaint would be to maybe clone the rail out on the bottom. It's a bit distracting but the subject does certainly make up for it. Nice work. |

the composition looks quite interesting, i kind of like the presence of the flag in front of her, makes this look less posed and real. |

Unfortunate with the flag obscuring her face, but with a candid like this you can't have everything. You have a very nice range of tones here in her skin despite the harsh light. This is a kind of photo that could invoke a lot of different emotional interpretations - looked at one way, she kind of has an anguished look on her face - without your mention that this was a spectator at a parade, her facial expression could be interpreted differently. The image makes you stop and think about it a bit. |

Great moment in time. The woman's expression is really wonderful - you can tell that she's hot and the sun is intense. Yes, the flag on her teeth - well - it's a caught moment, so that stuff happens, but it's very, very expressive. |

I love this so much Catherine. You're right. You captured such a real Americana moment. The photojournalism is just awesome.
You did a fantastic job making midday sun an asset to your composition. The high key, high contrast looks very intentional, artistic and like it wouldn't have been as good without it!
Fabulous job!

The tones here work for me. It struck me as a mid-day shot, and as things actually happen during mid-day (gasp), we should be able to represent them that way, shouldn't we? My only nit-pick is the flag across the woman's face, which I find distracting. I think you've processed it well, and I like the overall appearance a lot. |
