Challenge: Sports III (Basic Editing)
Camera: Canon EOS-20D
Lens: Tamron SP AF 28-75mm f/2.8 XR Di for Canon
Date: May 7, 2007
Aperture: 2.8
ISO: 400
Shutter: 1/2000

Date Uploaded: May 7, 2007

Shot with a piece of blue cardstock for a background because the weather in my area was cloudy for the entire week of this challenge.

Basic Levels, Curves, Selective Color, and Saturation Adjustment layers, resized, then USM at 150/.8/15.

I would have like to get some detail in the golf ball, but without multiple exposures, that wasn't going to happen, so, meh.

Thomas, I never got a chance to vote in this challenge, however this shot stuck out for me! Contrary to all the comments having the ball sitting "up" denotes Action to me,its part of the game of golf, and golf is a sport (my favorite)
As far as the ball in focus or a getting a little more detail on it is totally possible without more shots. I see that your f stop or aperture was set on 2.8, if this were higher on your 20D like f22 or higher your depth of feild will be deeper and a lot more detail will come out in the ball as well as the grass behind the club,of course you'll have to compensate with a longer/slower shutter speed to get the correct exposure
I like how the club is sitting down in the grass ( just as a 3 wood should) thats how they're designed. The card for the sky was very creative I'm going to try that on a cloudy day..keep up the good work and don't worry too much about comments I think we all get them from people who just don't know.

Very good photo. The ball is a little overexposed.

Great shot. Would have been nice to have the ball in focus as well but I guess that wasn't possible. I like the fact you've got the sky in the shot as well, I think the extra colour really enhances the photo.

I'd also like to see the ball in focus.

if only the ball was in focus...

Effective shallow DOF...you've really isolated your subjects but still have them the proper identifiable setting. Maybe...less sky, for less competition with the subjects.

Simple, colourful, nice colour contrast, would make a great stock photo

Nice photo... but ball a little overexposed and blurry.

Plus: Very nicely composed and the contrast between the white ball, green grass and club is very visually appealing

Minus: Clearer focus on the ball and a bit better overall exposure would have been beneficial

So, I am sure you are going to get comments that are not appreciated.

Yes, this is sports related, but, these are tools of a sport, and not as the challenge description suggests, "show some action".

How ever, photographically speaking, this is a well blocked image.

So here I go...comp great, color great, movement good, blacks a bit deep, whites blown, excellent texture, great dof, over all a fine image, but not a ribbon winner.

Good. I would have liked it more if the ball was focused too though - 6

Ball is over exposed and club is to hidden in the long grass IMHO

Despite being a nice photograph, this entry does not fall within the parameters of this weeks challenge. That being said, I must judge this photograph accordingly. :-(

Ahhh yes, the days when woods were really made of wood.

ball should be in focus, too, IMO
