Yeah - what a challenge to catch a cat napping. I really wasn't going to submit this week. I just couldn't get any shots of people that I liked enough to submit. So I wimped out and shot my cats and had a play with ISO settings and Photoshop curves. My plan here was to make you feel like you are curled up with these two cats yourself. These two are Gracie (forground) and Sam (background). They're Devon Rex cats - which is why they have very short fur.

To any of you still reading - this picture was deliberately muddled. I chose a crop and a shot that intentionally made it hard to figure out what was what. For me it added to the atmosphere of the shot. There's something about the way cats sleep all curled up around each other that seems comfortably muddled.

I like all of the different shades of black/white and grey. Not sure if there is another animal dozing in the background?

I'd like this shot better if the animal(s) were awake. Don't really care for the composition either. Cat in foreground is too close...almost can't tell what it is. 4 sjgleah

Very nice use of black and white. Do you use any filters in this shot? or just shoot in Black and White - no filters? The contrast is really nice. -phlebotiss

The detail of the cat is wonderful. You're probably getting torched by the cat sleeping isn't very candid, but can't win 'em all. I think if you had gone for just the cat's face and trim the rest, this could be really, really nice. 8 Swash

I like the dof, and the bw of this shot. It looks so peaceful, and fuzzy. Think it's time for my nap, now. karmat :-)

Beautiful black and white, beautiful light, beautiful textures to that fur/hair, and gorgeous composition/framing. This is a breathtaking photo for me. I'm sure many people don't think it meets the challenge, but all the definitions of "candid" allow this, in my opinion. 10 - lisae

cats have the right idea. sleep more than 75% of the time and get somone else to feed you. Good focus and photo rule application. This picture has a good texture for B&W conversion unlike 90% of the other B&W pictures

It took me some time to discover what it is, i used the whiskers as a guideline.
The photo is not in focus.

This is one of the best this week that i have seen. The texture and tone of the dog and the cat matches very well. The only thing I don't like is the distracting lamp on the left hand corner. 9 paganini

This may have been a bit better in color -- it's rather hard to make out the features of the cat here. It took me quite a while to decide what this was.
