Just for you Julianne :D

Extend the canvas size to give the background.
select image in layer palette and use the select just the picture then select quickmask at the bottom of the layer palette.
Go into channels and tick the new channel.
Click on the layer mask -filter-gaussian blur around 72.5 pixels
Select the Channel in the channel palette and open levels drag the left and Right sliders almost to the middle so you have nice curved corners without too many jaggies.
Make a new layer, drag it underneath the layer you've been working on and bucket your background colour onto it.
Select the image and select layer style, drop shadow and bevel and emboss.
Play around until it looks good.

So oriental, so clear, and wonderful use of clatiry and bright color.
I really love the composition, re the sngle of the lanterns.....
The soft invisable breeze, is allowing the light source to give a play of light on those leaves in front of the lanterns..... Very nice indeed.....
