Congratulation for your (or your friend's) hobby, but I think you could do more. Astrophotography is an domain in which you can experiment a lot. The telescope could be set up on a hill and you could take a interesting photo (from the ground up, for example). The flash doesn't help, the composition too. |

This has a flat, snapshot appearance. Perhaps a tighter crop on the subject and the telescope might be more visually appealing? |

Is that an ETX? Is that a cow? I like your idea here but I think you would have done better with a long exposure rather than a flash. He is so illuminated that it looks contrived rather than evoking the wonder of skywatching. |

I belive that this photo could benifit from a softer light source and a little different placement of subject as the fence intercepts his head. |

I like your idea. IMO, I think that this would have more impact if you cropped out most of the left and right sides and some of the bottom, and used a totally black bg. |

Not sure if its the hard light from a flash or post-processing, but the lighting is a bit harsh. |
