I see 5 types of transitions here: (1) the calmer water; (2) the ends of the waves; (3) the wet sand illuminated by the sky; (4) the "dry, non-illuminated" area of the sand; (5) and the stony foreground. The bird, surrounded by these transitions, is a nice addition.
Anyone else sees it that way?
Taken on Saturday in The Beaches area of Toronto. It was a relatively pleasant afternoon for a December day. I took a lot of shots along the edges of the water and with so many to choose from, I found it hard to pick one for the challenge. I like this one a lot better than the others so I picked it. I'm satisfied with it.
Shot with 18mm-55mm lens close to its longest focal length. I kept quite a distance to the bird in order not to disturb his enjoyment of the waves coming at him.
Post-processed in Photoshop CS: crop, levels, shadow/highlight, colors adjustments, resized, added border.

I like how you caught the gull right at the edge of where the wave makes it's mark. I think that's quite appropriate for this challenge. Definately different than the roof shots I've seen so far. lol. Although I can live with the shot just as it is, I wonder how it would look had it been a slight bit brighter? That's my only possible suggestion here. |

beautiful transition. that gull is kinda living on the edge, isn't he? i envy you for being near an ocean that isn't frozen. i like that you included the rocks...differentiates it from many other ocean shots I've seen. well done. Pedro |
