good macro effort but the bee seems too dark to really see a lot of detail

I think a bit too soft though. Not much really in focus/sharp here - the head being clearer would have been a plus.

IMO the bee is way to dark. Not sure what his deal is/was but he is too dark. Great macro shot though.

I think the macro is too close in this shot. Loses definintion and focus on the subject.

Cool subject. I actually like the soft focus, macros are usually tack sharp and crisp, this is kind of a refreshing change. I am thinking that perhaps it would have a stronger impact if there were some more detail present in the dark areas. Looks kind of 'blobbish' now, if you see what I mean. I'm wondering if even a little bit of levels or curves adj. could make a difference in this area?

There's no detail in your blacks. I can't honestly tell what that is. My guess is "bee," but I can't be sure.
