This is a wonderful capture of a memorable moment. You should frame this one! |

The trees dwarf the father and daughter, while the title makes them the central characters of the shot, it's great. They're wrapped inside the frame of the snow and the trees and that adds to the concept of the father and daughter entwined emotionally, for me. Nicely done. |

Greetings from the Critique Club
Initial thoughts/My opinion
Great scenery, very well captured and presented. Action needs to be made up in my mind including the title and thinking about how father and daughter are sledding town the hill.
Content/Composition
Not much to say other then wonderful: the huge trees build a awesome frame (therefore not adding a boarder was wise), the road is a wonderful leading line and the high position of the camera strengthen the "uphill-impression": father and daughter a really going upwards. Also their small size relative to the rest of the image fit very well.
B&W was good choice too.
Thumb up for all that!
Camera work -technically
Also not much to say other than very well made: exposure is great, especially considering that snow images are always hard to take. Focus and wide DOF are well set also.
Digital Processing - Technical
Cropping, sharpening etc. are great, no flaws I can see.
Fits the challenge
That's probably the point where many voters had problems with: it does not show the action itself, rather the upcoming action in the near future. So the viewer has to make the action by him-/her-self. For me that was not too much of a problem, but envision someone from Australia, Indonesia or just Southern California or Florida who never did a sledge ride with some kids: for those the action can not be foreseen.
Anyhow, it's a great picture and I would have submitted it too, even knowing it might come short in "fitting the challenge", just for its beauty.
Good luck for your further submissions

I like the scene - the snow on the ground, the ice on the trees, but I think it needs to be corpped at the top to emphasize the father and daughter more, and from one side to pull them off center. I know this leaves out a lot of the pretty scenery, but I believe it would make for a stronger composition. |

This is a beautiful shot, but I wish there were more action in it. you can't even really tell they are moving except the child looks like she's stomping in the snow. You did a wonderful job with the exposure and white balance, which are often difficult in snow shots. I love how the snow is sitting on the trees. Looks like Michigan right now. :) ~Heather~ |

While a lovely, and I am sure sentimental shot, I think I would have labeled it to reflect what is actually happening - walking through the snowy woods. Like the black and white also. it adds to the solitude of the scene. BOL |

Nice composition. Works well in black and white. The ruts at the bottom are a little distracting for me. |

Not really what I would have called an action shot, but a really nice picture. |

Gorgeous. One question: Is there any way to separate the two figures better? |

Excellent, strong composition. Love the placing of the figures - dad striding ahead with the sled, daughter trailing behind. It isn't really an action shot though, is it? Sure there's some action, but that's hardly the subject of the image, and I bet you get penalised for that. You get an 8 from me though. |

Very "romantic" (in the platonic not sexual way) and the framing of the trees is beautiful. |

I love the simplicity of this shot. It's everything you could want in a winter scene. Very nice, congrats. |

nice shot- more touching than evoking of action- if you show a sled- got to show it sliding. |

I like this.. it has a great atmosphere to it. The snow is a little blown out on the top of the hill, but I dont think it detracts too much as it has a wide tonal range. Some may say the people are too centered, but I think it's a classic look and style - a study of human nature. Well captured. |
