Hey, don't worry about the score. You received some good comments, and quite rightly so. And I'll say it again, this was the best entry (in my opinion).

I think mushrooms are neither fruit nor vegetables but that's nitpicky. I love the lighting and the colour. Also a very good DOF was used here. -stephan

unfortunately compression really hurts this photo.
09/15/2002 01:07:00 PM
either more DOF or more contrast might help this - 5

interesting use of lighting...

Could be clearer. Good luck in the callenge. Gracious aka Grayce

shroom! very cool. how did you do it? -discomushroom11

I don't think that shrooms are exactly a Fruit or Veggie. If my memory serves me right, I learned in my botany course that a shroom is an organism within itself.
The "blue" is also a bit too dark for me.

blue shroom, I saw you standing alone....(sorry, got carried away). like the blue and green colors in this drowning fungi but am distracted by the soft focus. I do like the placement. (5) ~mcmurma

i love this photo. it has a very nice muted feeling to it, and comes across very artistic. the color is really nice, and the textures on the cap are great. i'm not sure if maybe just a *tad* more depth of field might have made the mushroom pop a bit more. a great shot, but you lose a point because it's a fungus. 8.

Black more like, why sooooo dark? This has the makings of a very nice shot. 2-Martin.

You probably did this on purpose but I feel you missed the mark. Maybe if the focus had been sharper and a different placement of the mushroom might have helped.

interesting image... this is well composed and the color is also interesting... i'm just not sure that it really grabs me... = 7 - jmsetzler

I little too subtle for me to really like, I would like a little more contrast. interesting idea.
09/10/2002 10:20:00 AM
This is one of my favourites in this challenge - amazing colour, good texture of mushroom, nice shadow under mushroom and the darker section at the top persuades my eyes to look at the mushroom again and again. My only (minor) niggle is that the focus seems to falter at the extremes of the mushroom... perhaps this is the only way you could imrpove this photo. 10 without a doubt because, to me, this is ART.
09/10/2002 06:29:00 AM
Not enough focus, cropped to tightly on right hand side.
09/09/2002 09:54:00 PM
The working material from the original photo is not very helpful. Fixing it through saturation of a color will not make up for it.
09/09/2002 07:53:00 PM
The title's right.....it's just that it's soo dark, it's hard to see. Nice negative space.

I like the hues on this one. and I like the mystery of the shot. I would almost expect something like this on a book about Mushroom hallucenagenic effects. Very pretty shot. -phlebotiss

Thank you for not cropping out the "negative space" I really like it. Why did you go with blue?
09/09/2002 03:55:00 PM
Very nicely done. Looks like it's underwater. Good warm photo. Excellent work.

interesting photo...kind of from a distance looks like a mushroom cloud. Interesting use of blue tinge.
09/09/2002 12:44:00 PM
why did you choose to go with blue and little contrast? i'm sure there was a good reason, but i'm not getting it, sorry. also, a little more DOF would be preferable in my opinion. -- gr8photos.

I'm so glad I'm not alone in using something that isn't a fruit or a vegetable! I dare say many people have pointed that out to you alreadyâ€Â¦ I have to say it's a great idea, love the use of blue. I don't know your overall score, but mine is really low because I used mushrooms tooâ€Â¦ ooopsâ€Â¦ :o)
