I was hiking along Spraugue Lake in the Rocky Mountain National Park whenI saw this duck keep bobbing its head into the bottom, looking for something to eat. I have never seen a duck do this before, so it had me laughing pretty good.

I tried to edit out the one distracting blade of grass, but wasn't able to do a good job of it, so I left it in.

I was surprised by the amount of comments about this picture NOT being candid. The definition of candid is:
"Candid photography is snapshot photography that focuses on spontaneity rather than technique, on perfecting the immersion of a camera within events rather than focusing on setting up a staged situation, focusing on lengthy camera setup, or focusing on particularly strong lenses."

It does not distinguish between animals or people, but rather events.

I agree that this picture would have been better suited for the Backside challenge, but since this was taken before the challenge started while while on vacation, it was not eligible.

Funny picture, but not buying it as a candid.

Sure this wasn't meant for the 'backside's challenge? :)

What a bummer you weren't able to enter this into the backside challenge. Would have been perfect :-)

I don't understand the title for this image, why Marco!Polo! ? on the image, I don't like the composition on the middle, the grass on the right side is distracting. as candid moment could be acceptable because the animal have an unusual position.

Hmm, I think it needs a person for a candid..

Good capture, and the title is hilarious. It isn't a "posed" shot, as is, but it doesn't really scream "candid" to me, either.

IMO candid is people.

this would be good for the new backsides challenge, see if you can recreate it and I'll vote higher. :)

The Open Road, chapter 2 (Wind in the Willows) by Kenneth Grahame

Ducks' Ditty

All along the backwater,
Through the rushes tall,
Ducks are a-dabbling,
Up tails all!

Ducks' tails, drakes' tails,
Yellow feet a-quiver,
Yellow bills all out of sight
Busy in the river!

Slushy green undergrowth
Where the roach swim—
Here we keep our larder,
Cool and full and dim.

Everyone for what he likes!
We like to be
Heads down, tails up,
Dabbling free!

High in the blue above
Swifts whirl and call—
We are down a-dabbling
Up tails all!

Your photo reminds me of that chapter.

An interesting choice of subject...

I struggle a bit with the idea of animals as candids but no denying that you have captured a good image, super dof

I am struggling to see how this can be candid

DNMC IMHO

Otherwise a workmanlike photo.
