Played around with pp. USM in layer then erase all but flower in that layer. Used blur tool on bg and leaves. Dodge and burn to bring out darkened areas at edges which were already there but made them darker. Used smudge tool to get the framed effect.

After a few comments so far... I agree. Not sure I like the vignette either but what's done is done so off to tomorrow I suppose. Thanks for the comments.

I love how you have photographed the rose towards its last days..... Yes I am back and now trying to catch up with everyone.....

very well done, I agree about the vignetting, but that's the fun of Live & learn! and you can always redo it at home! I am a complete stranger to PS, so it sounds like a lot of work to me, but the image is very clear, and the reds are great!

I also agree about the vignette. I do think it's a great shot though! It's interesting seeing the close-up detail on the petals.

I like the detail and color on the flower but I'm going to have to agree abouto the vignetting.

Nice colors! All flowers face the same end - and you have managed to captured the beauty of it.

a very unusual take on the floral challenge. I can't wait to see where you go from here. I love the focus on the center. A great job getting the reds right.

Interesting idea - I appreciate all the details you gave in your post-processing. You could make this look more forlorn if the bright colors were desaturated a bit.

Roses can be so stubborn hanging onto those last petals!

Colors are nice but not sure I like the vignette. Seems distracting to me.

I like the clarity of the inside part of the rose. The idea also is quite good. I'm not quite as sure about the strong vignette - IMHO a subtler vignette might work well here.

To begin with an ending is an interesting choice. Nice detail on the petals and good job removing the background.
