Purple prairie clover (Dalea purpurea) grows 1/2 to 3 feet tall.

It is a nutritious forb that is readily consumed by livestock.

Historically, the Comanche and Ponca chewed the roots for their sweet taste. The Pawnee made brooms of the tough stems.

(This was kinda tricky to shoot because these stems were swaying back and forth in the breeze.)

Very pleasing DOF again here, and you have a true gift with taking magical images of flowers.....

Perfection by having three, horizontal leaning, and keeping the focus on the center one ... and with wind too. Congrats.

They kind of look like flowering pine cones. Cool.

Stunning! Bokeh adds so much here, along with the selective focus on the center flower, you've definitely got a winner here.

I thought this might have been an Ursula shot with a description like that. I love interesting info about the species. You did a GREAT job freezing the action in the breeze. The color and texture is amazing!

Great detail in the center spike. It's not easy shooting in the breeze!

Great colors.
The repeat of the orange from the pollen in the bokeh from the grass really makes the shot for me. I like the horizontal stripiness of the flowers.

Isn't it funny how some long spiked flowers bloom from the top down and some from the bottom up.

Nice and luminous. A slight POV shift to the left would leave the foreground stem clear of the in-focus element...

Like the mix of colors, especially the tiny orange heads against the purple flowers. Nice info to.
