Yellow Shrimp. (Pachystachys lutea)

My daughter brought this home yesterday saying, 'look what I found.'
It looked so silly I couldn't resist.

I grow the Pachystachys lutea from cuttings in my wholesale nursery and I have about 600 of them. When I list them for sale in the trade publications I have to list them by botanical name, so these names get branded in my head.

An interesting side note: the yellow is not part of the flower. If you look closely, you'll see that the yellow portions of the plant are actually modified leaves, colored to attract pollinators to the less obvious white flowers.

Thanks Robert I'll change the botanical name. Silly me I just put down what the tag said.

I've never seen these before. Beautiful colors, very vibrant. It looks like it's having a bad hair day, lol.

The color contrast is bold and beautiful. I can see the alien in the flower. Good shot!

What fun! The colors and detail are incredible. At first I though it looked like white eyes and wings, but now I am not sure, almost ballerina like. Any, nice work!

My favorite part of this photo is the intense colors. Really good lighting. From the POV, it looks like it is about ready for take-off.

OMG...too funny! Also kinda reminds me of a fish, swimming upward.

Wonderful capture. Colors are rich, nice DOF, white petals came out perfect and I like the compostion.

Great shot of one of my favorite house plants.
Aside from the silly face thing (which makes me smile) I like the way the yellow bracts look more like leaves than flowers. The white blooms have great detail and some true white without being blown out.

Amusing little show-off flower. I like the 'view' created in this one, & the other examples of this flower included.
