It was another rainy morning today and so my regularly planned tennis match was canceled. I decided to walk around the Riata ponds instead. It was cloudy and wet but the rain had stopped. There were several birds and animals about but the snakes seemed most prevalent. I saw three in a short time and two of them were quite sizable. The one in the photo is at least 4 feet (1.2 meters) long.
I desat the green and increased sat on the reds to help bring out the snake.

Totally cool image here, even though kind of scary.....
Also great timing to capture this one, as shakes move so fast in water.....

I can see the snake pretty well. And it does look like a big one. That's a good catch because I am sure it was moving around at a pretty good pace.

Wow neat shot! I really don't care for snakes, I know they're good for catching rodents though... You really did get some nice detail, the DOF is great! Glad you were brave enough to get that close to take the shot :)

Snakes give me the creeps, this is a great capture though, you really captured the texture of him!

Somehow I think I'd just avoid this thing if I saw it. Good job keeping it in focus.

It looks similar to the different species of watersnakes that we get in Florida so I would guess that this one is also some kind of watersnake. Looks like a large one! Great job keeping it in focus amongst all the grasses.

Beautiful shot - very artistic and zen - and then you see the snake. Just fantastic capture!! Wonderful processing, too.

Great shot Ron, is this a grass snake (to anyone who may think that is a daft question given it is in the water I can assure them that grass snakes do swim)

Love the way the head is framed just to the left of the grass with the body on the other side of it. Super clarity on the scales as well

Very beautiful. Hope they're not too dangerous.
