My baby is going to Kindergarten this year! Makes me happy and sad at the same time. Of course, lucky him, he has to have a set of immunization shots before going to school. Especially lucky for him is the fact that he has a mean mother who did not tell him what was about to happen until we were on the way to the clinic. (It's all in the psychology, I tell ya.)

He actually did incredibly well and did not cry until the last shot (he had 3 today). So as a treat he got to choose where we went to lunch today.

So after the shots, the nurse put on these really bright and colorful bandaids. It's amazing to me how much effort gets put into the tiny details in order to make this a more "pleasant" experience. It seems to me that when I was growing up, a big mean nurse rammed the big needle into you and then made it a point to slap on the ugly brown bandaid (which HURT very much when you tried to take it off).

So I was amused by the commercialized McD's band-aid that you see here today. Kids have it good these days...

Oh my word is it just me or has the world gone a bit crazy when plasters (band aids) start getting corporate sponsorship

he has done well to last three shots before shedding a tear (I used to get scared as we entered the doctors room....'Hey mum I thought you said we were going to the cinema???')

Lovely shot which would have been cool in the shadows challenge

Yeah, I had the mean lady do my shots too! I don't remember colorful band-aids at all, this is a great angle & unique shot!

I must be VERY VERY Bad! I never say anything. Heck, I walk out of the room and tell Nicole, "the mean ol' nurse will be in, be brave". Just kidding, sort of. (being that I'm a nurse, I leave out the mean ol' part) I do really hate the immunizations. But they are a necessary part of life, imo. I know there is a lot of controversy, and it the decision is always personal. Hope your baby was very brave :)

Yeah, cool band-aids, though I didn't notice the McD's at first. Next time I'm at the drugstore I'm going to buy super-hero band-aids or something. For myself. :-)

For some reason (age?) I couldn't make sense of the photo. At first I thought it was a teeny band-aid on the tip of a finger. Then I thought it was taken as if looking down on your own knee. It finally came together and I realized that was a shirt sleeve shadow at top. Weirdly disorienting, though!

Ha! When I was reading your story - before I got to the part of how it USED to be... I thought, man, in MY day we got jabbed with a big ol needle and my arm used to hurt as much from being held by the nurse as by the actual shot. And if we cried - well, then we were just total sissies.... And then I read your description! Exactly the same.

Awesome bandaid. I would wear that today.

Neat picture, but it's your story that really makes it special. I think I had the same nurses as you when I was younger...

My youngest started screaming before the nurse even got in the room. You could hear him outside the building. He's thirty now, and we still kid him about that. He really put on a show.

McDonald's band-aids. I've seen it all, now.

My kids' nurse is a grandmother and she said that when she tried to give her first grandson his shots, she truly realized what torment the parents are going through. So, she is as good with the parents as she is with the kids. She is so calm and soothing. I hope she never retires. My oldest is starting kindergarten this year too. Of course, I'm homeschooling, so I don't have deal with the "goodbye" part of it, but it is still awe inspiring to know that one of your kids has reached a milestone in growing up.

Awww, I hate those days. But I know for my kids, the bandaid would have made it all worth it! Cute shot!
