im not crazy about the flash that you can see in the background

The on-board flash is really harsh, and the picture is really grainy. Reduce the ISO and use bounce flash to improve it. It also looks overprocessed.

For me, the background and the flash area in the upper right don't work. I think if you werre to add another element or two or put Mike outside peering through some leaves or something, might make this more interesting.

shoot too obscure, grain noise

lighting is pretty harsh - move your subject away from the back wall so that shadows are softer

Nice pose amd built-in fun expression, but the bright spot on the background, the harsh shadow, the grain/noise, and the uneven junction of the backdrop with the foreground are distracting.

you need much better lighting for this. Your flash spot is distracting and the picture is entirely too grainy.
