While the light is good to show shape it's not the defining characteristic like you would expect it to be. Usually when something is shot against a black background you immediate think studio so expectations are high for fantastic lighting.
That said it may not even be your light but rather the way the subject is floating in the frame. The brighter areas against that black background makes the light feel harsher than it actually is and for still life you don't really want that. Had there been a table or cloth that was catching some of the light I bet this would have a totally different feel to it.
Mind you this isn't a bad shot or anything just giving you my thoughts on the lighting. Good luck. |

Seems to have lost a bit of green over to yellow, otherwise this would be really tasty :) |
