 My favorite subject to photograph. They never cease to amaze me. Yes, it took many attempts to get a shot I was pleased with, but that's the fun of it!

I thank everyone for your great comments and for my best score to date. There were so many wonderful pictures in this challenge I did not think I would do as well as I did.
Here is some information on how I got the shot. I used my Canon 70-200 2.8 IS lens with 420ex flash on a tripod. I prefocused at a point just next to the feeder from a distance of about 4 to 5 feet away (the minimimum distance that I could focus in on with the lens). Then I just waited for the little guy to show up. I can't remember how many shots I took before I got this one but it was alot! I wanted to make the backround more colorful than just the typical green and purple of my butterfly bush so I used an orange fabric that I bought and placed it strategically behind some of the branches to get all the colors in the frame. I didn't know how that would be recieved by the viewers, but apparently it added to the visual effect. I slightly rotated the final shot, used levels, sharpened, slightly increased saturation, Neat Image, and cloned out a small portion of the feeder from the lower left corner. The shot was taken at 1/250 sec. asa 200, aperature 7.1.
Here is my favorite hummingbird shot from last year where I used a totally green backround (the trees in the distance).

My first dream was to capture a hummingbird as beautiful as this! But I couldn't do it, hard as I tried. This is freaking AWESOME! I'm floored that this one wasn't the top scorer!

This is a great shot! I so want to shoot hummingbirds, but when I put a feeder out back, I didn't manage to attract anything but bees. Congratulations on this beautiful capture and 4th place!

A superb capture and an unusual posture from the hummingbird. The background is nicely colourful but seems out of place in comparison with the bird. It's obvious you've used a flash here (I can't imagine you had much choice!) but I wonder whether under advanced editing you could have softened the rather harsh whiteness?

Oh wow! Awesome colours and very well timed! Maybe just remove the shadow of the beak on his wing so that the flash lighting is not so obvious. This photo has a wonderful tropical island feel!
