truely amazing - especially for me who has never seen anything like this being a beach dwelling aussie. you are privilaged to see such a wonder of nature first hand. even our sunsets dont look as cool as that.

Reminds me of a cover for a Sci-Fi pulp magazine. |

Noise reduction would help this picture... |

This is a really cool shot if you could get rid of all the noise. There is abundant noise in the sky and even some in the snow. who'da thunk it? Maybe go with the lower ISO and a reduced exposure and probably you'd have got a ribbon for this challenge. This is absolutely amazing as a subject, but only pretty good as a photo in my opinion. 8 |

I'm very envious of you being able to photograph one of the greatest 'Light Shows' on Earth and do such a fine job. I’ll bet that some people think it to be ‘painted’. I grew up near San Francisco in Central California & I only saw the ‘Northern Lights’ about 5 or 6 times. I got to see them a few more times in Northern Idaho and used up every picture I had available. Your photos are wonderful. My entry in this challenge is a direct result of the comments left & PM’s to me from the Painting with Light challenge. I wanted to show the uninformed what it takes to get a photo. Sometimes they just don't see. |

Very cool ! This almost looks like a scene from some far off distant planet. Love this scene and the cool colors. Grain detracts alot, especially in the lower third of the image although I like it in the aurora. |

I wish you hadn't posted this in the forums prior to the challenge.

anyway... great capture of the northern lights, however the overall image is a bit tilted. It seems you may have enhanced the saturation, because the snow has greens and magentas in it as well. I also think a horizontal crop would lend well to the motion feeling of the aurora.
good luck in the challenge :) |

Having never taken a picture of the aurora borealis, I cannot begin to think how difficult these are to photograph. I like the way the aurora streams across the night sky and its color. However, it looks like you had to use a faster ISO setting of 400-800 to capture this and it shows with excessive noise levels. |
