 A street performer at an art festival. I'm finding my shot of people to have a rather soft focus with my camera and wanted to see what others thought.

The soft focus I think is a personal preference. Depending on the type of photo (portrait) look you're going for, you might want the violin in sharp focus and the rest soft. Or mayber her hands sharp and the rest soft or just her face sharp, I think it depends on what you're trying to convey with that particular photo. If it's just a portrait of the person's face, I particularly think they almost always look nice when they're soft.

Yeah it seems soft, are u using auto focus? if so you need to focus at the point that you want sharp and then while holding the button half way re-compose your shot.

seems abit soft, what apeture and shutter speed are you using and on what lens? that might give us some insight on why your having the problem.

Focus is a bit soft but it doesn't detract too much from the overage image. I'm am having big "softness" problems with my camera :(
