 OK for me this was quite an interesting challenge in that how does someone who has yet to break a six try and mimic photos which score over seven

I tried to go for a fairly simple, yet powerful ribbon winner, [user]hopper[/user] 's second place in the Hate Challenge in February. I guess what i learned is that while a photo may LOOK simple it is the skill of the photographer that helps facilitate this, because try as I might I could note duplicate his image

Hopefully he will think that I made a decent fist of it, but I am not kidding myself that this will do anything other than averagely (at best)

There are a couple of differences which are obvious in the shots

He used an engagement ring, I used a wedding ring
His settings were f5.6 1/200 mine were f7.1 and 1/25 because - I guess because of lighting etc - these worked for me
Although both images fill the frame, his crop is squarer and more in your face than mine
The Shape of the two keys are different

I see that your pic is more deja vu-ish than mine (which may not be saying much lol). I can't believe someone would rip up a keyboard to do this - that's dedication to your craft. Nice job copying the original.

I think you did a quite impressive job on this! It's funny how a photo that looks so simple can be so challenge to duplicate, isn't it. but you did really good!

Nice lighting, sharp details and good color tones on your emulation of the original. There is one element lacking in here that would increase the visual impact of the composition. It is the choice of ring. The plain gold band stereotypically is more readily associated as the man's wedding ring. A majority would be looking for a ring that illustrates the stereotypical feminine ideal "diamonds are a girls best friend". Many woman's wedding bands have diamonds (or can be found in engagement rings). There are some wedding bands that are just the plain gold band for simplicity but ask many people and the majority would say a diamond wedding band fits the standard vision of a woman's ring. By placing a ring with a diamond in the composition it would strengthen the imagery & emotional impact of a woman leaving a 'wedded' relationship that founded on the bonds of love. None-the-less great job on all the technicals of the photograph.

Hopper will be pleased to see this one in the challenge. I believe he regards this as the pinnacle of his photographic development. Good job on it btw. 8
