Exposure is perfect. I didn't comment in the challenge (figured you already knew it was good) and fully expected this to be top ten, easily. Perhaps a bit too subtle for the full-on in-your-face color-rules crowd but an exceptional photo just the same.

really great job, you are right, they are very hard birds to get close to, so very well done, nailed the focus and composition, very well done

These birds make great subjects. You've captured a unique look here with the dark background.

Awesome minimal image. I love the extreme negative space......it draws the heron to view in a spectacular way. Love the lighting and very slight bit of the reflection in the water.

What an exquisite composition! 8

Good clean image. I wish there was something else to it though. More reflection or more mist. As it is it feels a bit too simple. Not digging the thick border on it.

From looking at the thumbnail, I thought this was a b&w image and was very surprised to realize that it is actually in color. Very cool. Cannot wait to read abot the setup and processing (i'd love to know how you processed the background). Beautiful image.

Beautiful heron portrait. Perhaps a bit tighter on the cropping for less negative space (IMO)

Oh my. This is stunning. I love the simplicity of it. Perfect contrasts and the square crop is spot on. Delicious. 9

An unusual take on a heron photo. Nicely done. I think just a touch more detail in the water would add extra depth, but I still think this is a lovely b/w conversion and very interesting photo.

Awesome composition. The lighting is absolutely perfect. My only nitpick would be the border...I prefer black or white, not a color...that's just me though. Overall, a lovely picture. Great use of negative space.
