Perhaps my favourite ever photograph and one of the rare times when I see what I have produced and think 'wow I am getting this'

No real PP, other than resize, usm and add border

Post Challenge

Well I can't pretend that I was not a bit disappointed with how this scored. I was sure I may have my first 6 on my hands. Having looked at the other entries then perhaps this shot was engulfed by the absolute brilliance of many of the submissions. I think the other thing is that is seemed to lose quite a bit in resizing, the original just seems to shine out more (In fact when I get home - I am working away at the moment - I may post it into my portfolio)

Thanks as ever for the kind and useful comments

I've no concrete idea as to why this didn't score a six, to tell you the truth. DPC is a very picky place and free studies are tougher than most challenges. Good clarity, very pleasing color. The OOF branch in the foreground (which I like) may have hurt some. Composition is a bit centered, but appropriate for this subject. And I have a theory that half the time score is luck of the draw - it makes me feel better, anyway. :-)

Such a great capture, especially considering the frantic circumstances of their migration!

It's very pretty! Nice job on getting all the details of the butterfly. The black and white spots are my favorite part.

It is difficult to take shoot for this kind butterlfy because the color is dark and cannot got the detail on the butterfly body.

avg vote, the butterfly is not very crisp, the head is blured slightly and kinda wish the front top branch was behind butterfly rather then hiding it a bit
