A friday lunch time a couple of weeks ago my daughter danced at a senior citizens club. The lighting was terrible and the backgrounds hard to work with. I got a load of crappy photos and no decent ones of my daughter! However there were a couple that turned out pretty good and this was one of them.
I used this threadto help me with my editing. The first time I have really used layers ;)I cropped it slightly at the top to cut out a distracting bright strip of light, I think it improves the look of the photo but makes it more of a centered composition not sure if thats an improvement!

I'll add to this.
In Photoshop, take this image as it is here, and try this:
Image, Adjustments, Match Color, then in the settings box, check Neutralize, then slide the Luminescence slider on the top to about 130.
A one-step quick color correction while maintaining the soft pastel feel here.

How's the layer practice coming? Aside from using a soft light layer (see idnic's excellent tutorial), try using a reflector to bounce light back onto her face from below. I use a piece of white posterboard - it doesn't have to be expensive. Her eyes are so beautiful, you want them to shine. :)

She is so beautiful! Like a porcelain doll. I think you did an excellent job on this, and this will be one you treasure for years to come.

Sweet. Doesn't show a lot of "dance" though Maybe a closer crop getting rid of the armpits would help. Maybe framing it as a head shot would be better.

This looks like a pose and not so much like she is dancing.

She doesn't seem to happy. And the background blend in too much with the girl so it takes away from her.

However, I still really like this picture!

Nice capture of a seemingly pensive moment. She looks very deep in thought.

Nice photo, just a hint of shadow over the eyes.

beautiful portrait...and very nice model. Seems that the image needs to be straightened a tiny bit?
