This is my 7 year old daughter Nimue. Today sure was an exercise in frustration! It was exercise in learning how little I know and how crap I am at photography but I will keep trying :)
It is Monday of the 2nd week of the school holidays. Both my girls are dancers and have ballet exams coming up. It is traditional in the these holidays to have grade school which is when they go to ballet everyday!
I had originally planned to take 2 nice photos of both the girls with their hair done for ballet and put them together into 1 photo. I posted on the thread a question how to do it but no one replied thats alright because as it ended up I dont think the photos would have gone well together.
The weather is absolutley foul today very grey and raining heavily for most of the day.
I dont really know how to use my camera properly especailly in low light!
I made the poor girls go outside between heavy showers!
I quite like this pose but I find it really hard to get them to look natural grrr.
This is the best I could do considering I still havent earnt my drivers licence for my camera ( but hey thats what challenges like this are for!) and the conditions.
No processing ( would'nt know where to begin on these ones!) straight out of the camera just resizing

I think the exposure on this is great. Her face is beautifully lit. Heck, her face is beautiful. To someone who doesn't know her, the expression actually looks very natural, almost amused, even.

Cute girls! Sweet photo, nice depth of field. The background is a bit drab but nothing terrible about it.

I like this shot and it looks like a natural expression to me, but you know her. Kids can be horrible for that - neither of mine will give me a 'real' smile - either they're frowning or they goof off. I finally found a way to get genuine happiness-in-front-of-the-camera smiles out of them though...wanna know my secret?....I get them to say something rude about me. Their favorite? Mommy smells like BOOTY! I just wait for the giggles to stop and then click away. A little demoralizing (especially considering the joy they get out of it) but i get my shot!

I triumph in the end...I think... ;-)

Twerps.

Your girls look a little older though, might not get the same thrill, but you never know!

Great focus on her eyes. They accent what a lovely smile she has.
Nice natural portrait.

Nice portrait! I like the naturalness of it, nice colors and composition as well.

Quite a natural expression, at least according to this stranger. :) She looks pretty, and I like the composition on this one a little better than the other.

Wow, Joy! You are way too hard on yourself! This is beautiful. I'm amazed that it came straight from the camera. And I think your daughter looks very natural and pretty!

I think maybe no one replied to your question about how to combine 2 pictures into 1 because there are so many variables, that it would be hard to give simple instructions. If you PM me and tell me what you want your final result to look like, maybe I can help.

At any rate, you are NOT crap at photography! And i look forward to seeing more of your work.

Don't be too hard on yourself. This is a good shot especially with it being straight out of camera. My straight out of camera shots never look this good. I like how you had your daughter look over her shoulder, it kind of gives it a candid feel.

Good start for the challenge. This can be a great time to try new and different things in your processing. Making your girls go out in the awful weather sounds like something most of us would do...

What a cutie! Very sweet portrait. Despite the heavy showers, you got them to smile and cooperate.

Wonderful position in the frame, and again I love her smile.

She is so cute...... and growing up fast! It's way easier to combine images if you make sure to use the same background (hair is not nice to try and isolate), take them at the same time of day so the light is similar. Step back a bit so you have more room to work and fit them both into the photo.

Weather up here has been odd too, totally unpredictable. Gone from blue skies to torrential rain.

I think both photos looks very nice. Perhaps you could have used the portrait format. Putting them together depends on the software you use. I normally make a new document and drag both photos to it.
