I've never seen a whale look happier. Reminds me of the song "I Feel Pretty" (Westside Story, perhaps?). |

Wonderful capture of a great creature! Beautiful image, with bright colors and detail. I wouldn't mind seeing more of the photo either! |

Nice action shot, but what I find really interesting is those two people in blue rainjackets who are sitting in the splash zone! |

Great capture of the flying Shamu. You can tell the audience is anticipating the next splash. |

Thanks for the comments everyone. I'll have to start commenting also. Now I recall from my previous June side-challenge that was the most time consuming part.
I did not get wet because we were well above the "Soak Zone" and over 100 feet from the whale in this shot. I have lots of other pictures. I had it in sports mode here, which allowed me to take 3 shots per second. In this sequence I have the whale coming out of the water, in the air, and re-entering the water. I'll try to upload more to my portfolio tonight.
muckpond I agree it should have been longer for the longer whale. In fact it almost looks like the picture was shrunk horizontally with the whale's position. I just did a very rough crop of a small portion of the picture (due to no telephoto lens) and wished later I had cropped out the standing person. |

I love to watch those guys. It's like their huge bodies are weightless for a few seconds when they fling out of the water. Nice stop action! |
