Come on, people! Get over the fact that animals eat each other (and we participate, too, in both roles). It just happens to be like this, it's nature! Are you blaming the snake for eating the mouse? "Bad snake, you should be ashamed of yourself. Go eat your salad." ???
There are unpleasant things in this world. Not taking pictures of them will not make them go away (and giving such pictures a low rating won't either).
And Aleks: I'm still curious to know how you set this up. |

I did not get a chance to vote for this challenge, although I really would just like to let you know that I particularly like this image and I think it is ridiculous that you got so many ones. I used to own a few snakes and I really like the face of the mouse and how the corn snake is not completely in focus, because it brings your eye to the mouses face, which is picture perfect.
Nice job, and I would love to bet that you had a great time getting this setup...BTW, how exactly did you get this setup, being that you would probably have been bitten if you took hold of a snake with its mouse.... |

You should have placed way better. This is an excellent photograph. 9. I gave you the best score out of them all. |

While I can fully appreciate some individuals being offended by this rather graffic image, I truly cannot comprehend a score of one. The focus could be slightly better, but there is no disputing the fact that the subject matter is well within the challenge description. The lighting is good, as are the composition and background.
I for one was NOT revolted by this image as I have a full appreciation that events of this nature occur on a regular basis in the wild, and for these reasons voted it an 8.
There are things that I do find appalling, but I earnestly endeavour not to let that affect my judgement of the image and the score it warrants.
I could grudgingly support a score of 3, but 1 is truly inane in this and most other instance.
Well done, and my compliments for testing the waters... you now know that for some, personal biases unfortunately have more impact than the quality of the image.

Wow...technically this is a nice picture with decent composition and exposure. However, you should caution viewers against enjoying this image just before or just after eating. |

just a little more depth of field to get the snake's eyes in sharoer focus would have been nice. like the exposure |

Ooh, the poor widdle mouse. Good capture but you are going to get a lot of comments about the brutal scene. |

Awesome work, the timing could not be better and more importantly , this photograph would have looked dull had the rodent shut its eye.
With the prey wide-eyed as the snake this calls for an applause |

Ouch! Beautiful contrast with black background, sharp image, etc. My be difficult to ribbon with the 'violent' content, however; we'll see. I give it an 8. |

I can't deny that this is a good sharp photo, but I'm sorry I'm not a lover of snakes at the best of times and the subject matter of this shot just totally put me off. |

Powerful, yet disturbing image. |

Very disturbing. It would have been great if the snakes head was in focus. Its different so its cool |

Impressive and realistic, but it does not belong to those you want to put on your wall in nice framing...9 |

Outch! Technically a great picture, I like the composition and the lighting. Very dramatic with the blood on the face. I'm curious to know how you set this up. As usual, you'll probably get a bunch of low scores due to the unpleasant nature of the picture (especially if people think it's a female victim and a male offender ;-) ). |

I'm sorry but I find this very repulsive, beings an animal right activist and a vegitarion this, to me, is disgusting! Maybe if the poor creature wasn't bleeding all over. Sorry. (p.s, I don't think it's fair for me to give you a poor score becuase of my beliefs. Just so you know I'm not giving you a an unfair score ) |

I bet you are getting slammed for posting this. But I love it! I own over 40snakes now (mostly cornsnakes) - and this looks like an Anery cornsnake to me...
Nice job catching the coil around the mouse. My only slight issue is I wish the head were in better focus.
Huge kudos to you for having the cajones to post this photo. |

This can't get any better than this... Excellent timing... a perfect exposure... a decent point of view to have the faces of both the killer and the killed visible... I like everything about this shot... Eager to see your note on how you took this... This should ribbon in my opinion... |

Very brave of you to enter this. I'm sure you are getting battered for it by the voters.. I'm not voting in this challenge because I am in it but I think it is a very sad but excellent shot of what happens naturally within the struggle for food... LIFE in general. It made me feel a little sick to be honest but shit happens and SALUTE for submitting it.
Technically it could use more focus but the composition is good and the snakes tongue is hanging out in anticipation of it's freshly killed dinner. I would of given an 8. Good luck. |

No doubt the faint of heart will score you too low. This is a pretty good shot though. I would have liked to see the face of the snake a bit sharper is all. |
