 I made the flowers out of tissue paper and twist ties and attached to the pencils with some puttin on twist tie. I took some putty and stuck it under the back drop and stuck the pencil flowers in throught the base of the drop into to the putty. I didn't have enought putty first and added some more and they stood fine.

Post: Convert from raw in PSElements 3.0 with a +0.33 exposure compensation. Layer adjsutments for levels, brightness/contrast and hue/saturation. A layer of curves adjustment. Sharpen. Crop. Resize. Sharpen.

I like the "stems." For me, I wonder if you had added a leaf or two or maybe a different background. Your idea does show ingenuity though - and I like that.

Personally the coloured tissue paper as a background doesn't work for me =(
I'm also thinking, perhaps using green pencils as the stem and different colours to each flower would've worked better? Maybe adding a leaf to each 1 as well would've given an extra punch? My last point would be making the whole image in focus as the pencils which are meant to be the main part of the challenge in focus... =p sorry for the long comment and good luck!
