Detail of my grandma's jacket. I don't know the right english words to explain it; The shiny thing is a kind of button that is hooked behind the string on the other side. That way it closes the jacket. The original ones are of wood and rope, this one is brass and leather.
I read black challenge & speed on the screen, walked down the stairs, saw this and shot it.

Camera: AF with assist light, manual exposure with grey card reading and 2/3 stop exposure bias. Mounted on a tripod, 2s timer.

Photoshop:
* Lot of dodging and burning to balance the two sides out
* Burned the whole background with a 100% black brush on a 50% grey overlay layer
* cloned out some bright dust spots
* Chroma noise reduction
* Cropped
* Resampled
* Sharpened in lab mode 180% .3 1
* Added a border on a new layer with two inverse selections, inner border is R220,G220,B220 grey and the outer one is pure black.
* Save for the web @ 100%

Oh, and I flipped it 180 degrees, looked a bit more interesting.

My Dutch is rusty - I think they were once called 'frogs' in English. (Because the French military uniforms had a similar fastener). I think 'houtje touwtje' is probably a better name. I like how it sounds on my tongue!

I've looked at this a couple of times and I still don't completely understand. Doesn't do much for me though. Maybe I need to see more of the purse(?) to appreciate it more.
