I really think this would have been better in the "something old" challenge. (4)

A bit awkward having the twigs on the left half in the shot, especially the topmost one that seems to originate from another tree and even more so given that it is as sharp as your main subject

Your composition suffers from too many subjects in the shallow DoF. Perhaps if you'd selected just one or two leaves for focal point. Additionally, there's some fairly severe haloing from the sharpening step in post-processing.

a diffuser would have helped to avoid the hot blown out areas. Although you were watching the background to get a good bokeh, a more neutral less busy one would work much better to pop out the new tree. Your subject is too busy as well. I'm sure you had the chance to remove (bend away) the additional branches reaching into your picture.

Too cluttered and uneven focus.

cluttered background.

too blown out

Appropriate subject; kinda' busy and looking a little blown out on my monitor. A tight shot of a leaf cluster and next year's leaf bud might more simply illustrate the topic.

great idea, but as with a similar shot of mine, the background is a bit distracting. a member left a me a comment about how to get rid of the distracting backgrounds, it might interest you. really like the variety of colors.
