not sure what to say nice tree down boy! Maybe you should have been looking at a vagina instead of a tree since that is what it looks like.

Formal composition does not help this subject IMHO |

You shuldn't position the hole in the center, offset it to one side, or the other side. |

Centering the hole makes this look.....orificial? Offsetting the hole and balancing it with more bark would have improved it IMHO. |

I think this is probably the best "bark" shot in this challenge. Good job! |

[World Record Attempt]
+ The tree is certainly textured,
- but there isn't a lot more to be seen here and the tree isn't that interesting. |

one of the nicer "tree bark" shots. To make it a bit better: composition might be better moving the hole out of the center of the frame. |

I would have moved the hole to one of the rule of thirds spots. Other than that, I like this. |

tree shots are simple and obvious, but this is exposed very well and like it quite a bit. |

I like to see creatures in wood, and (for me) there's a fine owl in this image. Enough of that, you have a good image here that captures the category well. Maybe it's a bit light, maybe not... Anyhow, good seeing! |

My favorite of the tree/bark shots so far. The colors are nice and the photo is sharp and clear with good contrast and detail. |

Good. Think I would have pushed the contrast a little to cope with the brightness of the direct light, just to bring out the light/shade a toucch more, but this is pretty well controlled as it is. Doesn't quite do it for me though - with such a centred composition I think you need more to lead the eye in and out of the image - not necessarily directly, but concentric rings like this I think we need to see more of, to give greater context, to balance the hole/crater area more carefully. If that makes sense. |

You captured a nice range of textures from bark to weathered wood to the smoother wood as you look down into the hole. |

A shadow covers the most interesting part of your subject. A fill flash in an angle against tha light source can help you so much in this cases. |
