I found this gentleman in the train (he boarded the South Florida Tri-Rail with his bicycle) and I couldn't resist to take some shots for this challenge.

I regards to those comments about the imperfect angle and how this kind of perspective emphasizes a bit too much the size of his hands, which are actually very large, I didn't have space to use a longer lens, and there would have been too many distracting elements if shot from a higher level, so I tried to use the hands and the case as an interesting feature of the character.

After the on-board shooting I got into an interesting conversation with him and found out he's been playing the saxophone in different jazz places for the last 55 years!!. He calls himself the Blues Man, and that day (saturday Nov 17th) he was on his journey to West Palm Beach to play at the Green House club.

Too bad I did not have a chance to take some pictures of him with the saxophone in his hands or, even better, playing it.

Another wonderful shot Alfredo. I can see why you couldn't resist taking some shots of him. A very classic face.

I think this is an outstanding character study. I read your comments, and I think the angle of the shot is great. I like the prominence of his hands, which are such a key element to his character and livelihood. Congratulation on your ribbon.

Congrats on getting a ribbon on this - even if it is due to a DQ - It is an excellent image and you should be rewarded for it

IMHO this is a great photograph, it convincingly conveys the subject's character and is executed with impecable technique, specially considering the limitations of space and lighting impossed by the setting. I personally think the perspective of the huge hands adds to the picture.

This is another example of Alfredo's intense work and dedication, not only in capturing the image but also in post production processing.

What an intriguing photograph - the old gentleman, almost looking as though he has fallen through the space/time continuum, hands folded and eyes raised to heaven as though in prayer, the modern transport (a minibus pehaps?) and the case placed carefully and neatly in the foreground.

Very good portrait, seems to capture the essence of the individual. I don't normally like a point of view from below the face, but here it seems to work well.

It would be better if camera angle was closer to eye level.

I don't like the hands, they are much too large. I would have used a longer lense. Ok, it might be difficult in a train...

A fine portrait, but I can't see the element of:
"learning through informal learning processes and simple, lived experience"
