I wonder how a composition with as much of the talon showing as in the shadow would have looked - would that make the photo bland or better... |

I like the off centered subject, and the way the claws just touch the wood, like they were as pointy as needles. I don't like the high contrast, there are a lot of details lost in the shadows, and a few spots that are blown out. |

Interesting photo here! - I like how the shadows act as a mirror of the claw, the 3rd nail looses clarity by blending into the shadow, but overall nice image- 8 |

Talons are hardly mundane unless you live or work in an aviary they are not commonplace at all. Regardless you have taken this talon and might look more extraordinary than it is already with the excellent texture contrasts, detail and the superb shadow. Ribbon please. |

Great detail and wonderful shadow. B&W works really well.
Keep it up... |

What a great shot. I dont think many of us see talons in everyday life, however I do think it meets the challenge because I have see a ton of bird photos here, but none have depicted the lower extremity in such way. Nice photo ! |

Terrific work. I love the subject, lighting, shadow, detail. I will be relaly nitpicky and say I wish the tip of the rightmost talon wasn't lost in shadow. A minor point (ha!). |

This one is fascinating because I can look at it in abstract - ignore that part is the object and part is the shadow and see them just as "shape" - and that works - or I can look at the object itself and that works too. and I love the texture of the wood with all it's scratches so evident - the angle of the grain within the photo is just right too - I like that hint of diagonal line that you have in the wood crack. |

like the B&W and the full shadow - would like to see the full talon. |

the subject matter is great! It seems a little dark to me, or it has too much contrast for my tastes...I would have cleaned up the black too with no white specks showing...I believe this photo has the potential to be a really great photo!! Oh...I also like the composition....really grabs your eye right from the start.... |

I wish the claws didn't get lost in the shadow, but very cool nonetheless! |
