I had big plans for today when they talked about snow and freezing rain. By the time I got outside It was already at the freezing rain stage and starting to get dark. When I was out and stopped at the local liquor store to get some seasonal beer, the car accumulated quite a bit of ice. The headlights had an awesome abstraction going on and I figured I would shoot when I got home. It didn't happen - by the time I got home it melted off.

So I go to plan B. I looked out in the yard to get the very thin ice coating on the leaves. Nope, it was raining and not enough ice accumulation.

Plan C. I took some pics of Cartesia playing with her "moon sand" but she was uncooperative, and when she posed it just didn't look right.

Plan D. I figure there will be alot of Christmas type pictures in the Dec SOL, so I wanted to do something different. Out came the tripod and bracketed exposure to get the ultimate ornament/light picture. I tried several attempts at HDR and nothing looked quite right.

Plan E. Give in and admit that today's shot will fall under boring and mundane.

3 shots merged to HDR/tonemapped
crop
Nik Efex white neutralizer (easy tool to get rid of color cast)
Lucisart Winslow (just a tad)
Lucisart Exposure
Redfield Perfectum
hue/sat
Impressionist filter - Paint, Fingerpaint (free plugin on web)
paint green in the pale yellowish branches of Christmas tree
USM
resize
smart sharpen

So today you get blood from a stone.

Somedays it's difficult to get anything worthwhile, isn't it? However, you seem to have turned this into a very nice image. I love what the impressionist filter has done, it's great.

I like the composition, and one of the earlier comments was exactly right on when they said it would make good wrapping paper.

I love the way this turned out. The impressionist filter gives the tree a much more textured feel. I also like how the filter creates varying shades of the colors that are already there. It is a good thing you seem to always have a back up plan :oP

Well I enjoy the light in this image a lot, so to me, it does not fall under boring and mundane... The PP gives it an impressionistic feel that is not usual for Xmas shots. it would make a nice Xmas card.

I really like the editing on this!! I agree with codfish about possibly cropping out the bottom light, this is very nice though :)

I really like the PP on this, it really reminds me of old christmas cards. The only thing I may have changes would have been to crop out the light at the bottom.

Love the processing! I'd bump contrast a little more but this is a great holiday image (would make a great x-mas card, in my opinion).

I like the story- this could be a Beautiful Christmas card; the processing is way beyond my skills so I like to read & write down when i see something appealing like this- thanx !

It is cute processing but I'd like to see it with deeper and richer colours.

I like the composition in this one. The bulb in the upper left works very well. I would have been tempted to put it at the bottom of the image, but think this works much better. The spot of light at the bottom balances the image - for me.

Well, this should be rewarded with a comment, at least. I like the effect you achieved here - impressionistic - I like it. Very Christmassy, too - would look good as wrapping paper, say.
