This photo exemplifies what is good and not so good about living in our town. We have a lot of festivals, the beach, lighthouse, etc. This is our small zoo, so small that you can see pretty much everything in about 2 hours, but it's nice to walk around and local and inexpensive.

Every year they decorate the zoo and especially the park. They go crazy decorating with all kinds of lighting effects and it's FREE to drive through and the lights seem to go on forever. The lights must have cost a fortune and I know it takes weeks to put them up.

What's the not so good? I think they just put them up, plug 'em in, and walk away. Many of the lights have complete sections that are burned out. Some of the animated light effects look aweful. I personally would rather have fewer lights and not see darkened gaps. Car after car drives through (many from other towns) to see the lights. This is our chance to shine, but we're simply burned out. The park department charges a lot to park during the warm months and they take in a lot of money. I'd even be willing to pay a couple bucks to drive through if they'd just fix the lights. I think they just don't care.

If you look at the peacock you can see a few bulbs out. One of the strings above the gate is burned out. And this is one of the better part of the display.

This is my typical HDR/tonemap treatment
lots of basic adjustments
Lucisart Wyeth/perfectum
Nik Efex Color neutralizer to get rid of color cast
Orton effect (just a bit)

The color of the sky is actually fairly close to reality. When it's cloudy we get that funky orange/color from nearby cities.

I'm a recent convert to the Lucis Arts filter and have to say, I like the effects. I think the HDR/Filters work well with this shot.

All the standing out side to freeze your behind off and the editing really paid off. This has kind of a whimsical feel to it. The colors sure pop on that peacock.

Cool shot! The top part of the picture looks almost like a drawing and the rest is picture-sharp. Nice PP.

This has an almost dreamy effect to it

interesting commentary. maybe the real problem is that 2007 Christmas is just a little too much for most folks. The lights are beautiful, less shopping and more lights would be my vote! (really nice sense of motion in this image.) LG

Wonderful photo. I especially like the flags. This is the perfect PP for the job, IMHO.

The image is very appealing - but I do agree with you about the light management !
I must echo what Jeb says about the editing- I'm on a very slow learning curve and I only have PS Elements 5- not to knock it,,,suffices if you can't afford the big one yet.

Great processing! Has a sort of wind-blown, forlorn look to it.

I really like the softness of the sky against the hard lines of the bricks. Nice capture, eventhough some of the lights are out.

Hey, at least you've got a zoo!! We don't have that. Freaky processing that is not my style but I do like the lit peacock. :)

I love this!!! I want to learn how to do this, but I'm so scared to venture down that path.

I've got so much going on in my learning curve that I get frustrated easily.

This is beautiful, and the missing bulbs don't hurt it one bit.

Great image, Ken. I like the HDR for this image - this is classic small city Americana. I lived in Akron, OH for a couple of years and they did the same thing.
