The South Shore Line is iconic in NW Indiana. The trains run from downtown Chicago all the way to South Bend, IN. The line has been in existence for 99 years and still runs many trains daily.

Some of my earliest memories were the few times I went to Chicago on a Saturday with my grandmother. Later when I was in college I had a summer job and rode them on a daily basis. It was a blast because we found the "party car" and I'll just leave it at that. Even to this day you can still drink on board and not get hassled, as long as you're not obnoxious or acting stupid. Last August we took the girls to Chicago on the South Shore and I'm sure we'll do it again.

After we dropped off Taylor at acting class we stopped for a light and here came the train right down the middle of the road. I haven't seen any other town that has trains do this and it amazes me every time to see it. The trains are electric and you can frequently see sparks where the cars are attached to the power lines. I quickly got out my camera and got a few quick shots.

I tried to emphasize the stainless finish of the trains, with all the dents and imperfections from decades of use. On the lower left you can see the light from a car waiting on the other side of the road.

the reflection of light is stunning and the b&w is really good for this image - the writing also makes it a great story!
